Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has commissioned the newly tarmacked Turitu–Riara Catholic–Ndumberi Road in a major infrastructure boost expected to improve transport, safety and connectivity for residents and schools within Ndumberi and surrounding areas.
The road project, which links Riara Primary School, Riara Secondary School, Loreto Girls and Loreto Primary School, is expected to ease movement for hundreds of students, parents, teachers and motorists who have for years struggled with poor road conditions, especially during rainy seasons.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony attended by students, parents, church leaders and local residents, the MP said the project forms part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery across Kiambu Town Constituency.
Waithaka noted that the upgraded road will not only improve access to learning institutions but will also support local businesses and residents by reducing travel time and transport challenges within the area.
The road stretches all the way to Kiratina, creating a more reliable transport corridor for motorists and pedestrians. Residents have previously raised concerns over the narrow bridge along the route, which often posed safety risks and caused congestion during peak hours.
As part of the works, the bridge has now been expanded and reconstructed to allow smoother and safer passage for vehicles and pedestrians. The MP said the improvement was necessary to address long-standing safety concerns and accommodate the growing population using the road daily.
Parents and residents who attended the event welcomed the development, saying the upgraded road will significantly improve accessibility to schools and reduce transport difficulties experienced by learners and families.
The commissioning ceremony also included prayers and blessings led by Father Paul Maichuhie, who commended the efforts to improve infrastructure and support education within the constituency.
The latest project adds to a series of road upgrades and development works currently ongoing across Kiambu Town Constituency as leaders push to improve infrastructure and enhance mobility in residential and learning areas.
Local residents expressed optimism that the improved road network will help stimulate economic activity and create a safer environment for school-going children and motorists.
The commissioning comes at a time when infrastructure development continues to dominate political and development agendas across Kiambu County, with leaders under pressure to improve roads, drainage systems and public amenities in fast-growing urban centres.
