Kiambu completes Hiuhu–Matiru road upgrade

Residents of Undiri in Kikuyu Municipality have a reason to celebrate after the completion of the Hiuhu–Matiru Road rehabilitation, a key infrastructure project that is expected to ease movement and improve economic activity in the area.

The road upgrade has been successfully delivered under the Kiambu County Government’s flagship infrastructure programme, Boresha Barabara, which is spearheaded by Governor Kimani Wamatangi as part of a broader agenda to improve road networks across the county.

The completed works now mark a major milestone for residents, traders and motorists who depend on the route for daily transport and business activities. The improved road is expected to enhance accessibility, reduce travel time and lower vehicle maintenance costs for users.

For years, residents had raised concerns over the poor condition of the road, which often became difficult to use during rainy seasons. The rehabilitation is therefore seen as a timely intervention that will support local development and improve the overall quality of life in the area.

According to county officials, the Boresha Barabara initiative is designed to open up rural and urban areas by improving road connectivity and ensuring that communities are better linked to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.

The Hiuhu–Matiru Road project forms part of ongoing efforts by the county government to modernise infrastructure and support economic growth through improved transport systems. Officials say better roads are key to unlocking opportunities for businesses, particularly small traders who rely on smooth logistics to move goods and services.

Motorists using the route have already expressed relief, noting that the upgraded road has made travel safer and more efficient. Traders in the area have also welcomed the development, saying it will help boost customer access and improve business turnover.

The county government has reiterated its commitment to continuing with similar projects across Kiambu, with several other roads currently under construction or scheduled for rehabilitation under the same programme.

Governor Wamatangi’s administration has maintained that infrastructure development remains a key pillar in transforming Kiambu County into a more connected and economically vibrant region.

As the Boresha Barabara programme continues, residents are expected to benefit from improved road networks that support mobility, trade and access to essential services across the county.
