Gospel musician Ringtone Apoko, known for his outspoken nature, has secured Sh1 million cash bail after days in custody. The singer, whose real name is Alex Apoko, faces accusations in a Sh50 million land fraud case involving property in Karen, Nairobi. His hearing is scheduled for August 6, 2025.
Authorities arrested Ringtone alongside Alfred Juma Ayora over claims that they attempted to fraudulently acquire a 0.47-acre prime property. Registered under Teresia Adhiambo Odhiambo, the land became a focal point of dispute when Ringtone argued he had owned it through adverse possession, stating he had lived there for over two decades.
Ayora also faces charges of false swearing and perjury, with prosecutors alleging he submitted false affidavits to manipulate legal proceedings. Investigators believe both men conspired to take control of the land.
Officials first remanded Ringtone on May 15, 2025, after he missed previous court dates. The court issued an arrest warrant, leading to his detention. During his appearance on May 19, 2025, he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The judge granted him a Sh3 million bond or an alternative Sh1 million cash bail, enabling his release. His co-accused, Ayora, remains in custody due to his additional charges.
The case has sparked intense discussions, with many questioning land ownership disputes in Kenya. Ringtone, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and bold statements, continues to maintain his innocence, insisting he rightfully owns the property.
As the August 6, 2025 hearing approaches, the public and legal experts await further developments. The court’s verdict will decide whether Ringtone clears his name or faces serious legal consequences.
