President Ruto’s housing plan: Government to hand over 5,000 units by end of 2025

President William Ruto has announced that the government will hand over 5,000 housing units to families in Mukuru, Nairobi County, by the end of 2025. He made the commitment during the handover of 1,080 units under the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project.

The Mukuru project occupies 56 acres and will deliver 13,248 residential units upon completion. The government has prioritized allocating homes to residents of Mukuru’s informal settlements.

The Kenya Kwanza Government’s Affordable Housing Programme aims to provide decent and affordable homes while generating jobs. Construction and logistics have already created over 160,000 employment opportunities.

“Tutarudi tena baadaye mwaka mpya tupatiane nyumba zingine 5,000. Twende hivyo mpaka tujaze watu 13,000 hapa tuwape wananchi nyumba zao,” President Ruto stated.

The government will hand over another 5,000 units in 2026, continuing until the project reaches completion. Officials have also pledged to build a Level 4 hospital, schools, and shopping centers within the estate.

Residents have embraced the project, expressing optimism about improved living conditions. The initiative is set to transform Mukuru into a modern residential area.
