Kiambu County Governor Wamatangi hits back at Kiambu MPs, accuses rivals of sabotage during bursary event in Kikuyu

The simmering political tensions in Kiambu County escalated on Tuesday after Governor Kimani Wamatangi openly clashed with Members of Parliament, accusing them of undermining his administration.

Speaking during a bursary issuance event in Nachu Ward, Kikuyu Constituency, the governor dismissed criticism from MPs, warning leaders against using young people to advance political agendas.

“Leaders must stop using our young people in the wrong way. Instead of inciting them to demonstrate or peddle falsehoods, let us empower them with opportunities and support. That is the leadership Kiambu needs,” Wamatangi said.

Before his address, county leaders including the Deputy Speaker, the Leader of Majority, and the host MCA defended the governor, alleging that recent demonstrations in Kiambu town were sponsored by MPs seeking to derail development.

Wamatangi accused some elected leaders of plotting to sabotage his government but vowed to stay focused on delivering in education, health, and infrastructure.

“All these schemes are meant to derail us, but I want to assure you, nothing will stop this government from working for the people of Kiambu. I will not be pushed into premature campaigns. My campaign will be my scorecard,” he declared.

The event saw hundreds of students benefit from bursaries ranging between Sh5,000 and Sh10,000, with some receiving full scholarships. Wamatangi said the scholarship program remains one of the most effective ways of transforming lives and securing equal opportunities for all learners in Kiambu.

As political rivalries heat up, residents are left weighing competing narratives, MPs accusing Wamatangi of sidelining them, and the governor’s allies alleging sabotage by MPs ahead of 2027.

For now, Wamatangi insists his work, not political rhetoric, will define his leadership.
