JSC sets January to March 2026 interviews to fill 45 judicial vacancies in key Kenyan courts

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has confirmed that interviews for new judges will be conducted from January 12 to March 23, 2026, as part of its nationwide recruitment drive to strengthen Kenya’s judicial system.

The interviews, which will be held at the JSC Boardroom, CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi, will cover positions in the Court of Appeal, High Court, and Environment and Land Court.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, JSC said the process will fill 15 vacancies in the Court of Appeal, 20 in the High Court, and 10 in the Environment and Land Court, totaling 45 new judges.

According to the Commission, the list of shortlisted candidates and specific interview dates has been published on its website to promote transparency and public participation.

The move is expected to ease the heavy case backlog in several regions, including Kiambu County, where residents and legal practitioners have long raised concerns over delayed rulings, particularly in land and succession disputes.

JSC emphasized that all interviews will be merit-based and conducted in full view of the public, reinforcing the judiciary’s commitment to accountability and service delivery.
