Queen Mary of Denmark arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday evening for a three-day official visit aimed at boosting Kenya-Denmark cooperation on climate action, conservation, and sustainable development.
The Danish monarch was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano, and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. The visit highlights Kenya’s push to become a regional hub for climate diplomacy, environmental innovation, and conservation technology.
During her stay, Queen Mary will tour coastal wildlife conservation projects, Nairobi landfills, and waste-management initiatives, showcasing Kenya’s transition toward a circular economy. She is also scheduled to participate in the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Gigiri.
Officials said the visit offers Kenya an opportunity to deepen collaboration with Denmark in renewable energy, green financing, and climate-smart urban development, aligning with the country’s climate commitments. This marks the Queen’s second African visit in two months, following Egypt.
