The Office of the Auditor-General is mourning the passing of Deputy Auditor General CPA Fredrick Oluoch Odhiambo, who died on Thursday after a brief illness. He was 42.
Auditor-General FCPA Nancy Gathungu described Odhiambo as a visionary and focused leader whose work had left a lasting impact on Kenya’s auditing landscape.
“DAG Fredrick has been a focused leader who has made great contributions to the Office of the Auditor-General, the Nation and the global public sector auditing community. This is a sudden and tremendous loss to his family and to the OAG family,” Gathungu said in a statement.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated after consultations with his family, while Kenyans have been urged to keep his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.
Odhiambo’s career was marked by stellar academic and professional achievements. A Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Financial Services Auditor, he held advanced degrees in accounting, management, and public policy.
He previously worked with Deloitte and KPMG in West and North Africa, taught at a local university, and at just 32, became Director of Forensics at the Auditor-General’s office. In 2020, he rose to Deputy Auditor General for Financial Audit Services, where he supervised more than 1,200 auditors and expanded the reach of public expenditure audits nationwide.
