According to authorities, the ordeal began when the victim disappeared without trace, prompting his girlfriend to call his phone. The call was picked up by an unknown person, who demanded the hefty ransom for his release. Alarmed, she alerted police who immediately launched a manhunt.
Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the kidnappers to Ithanga where the victim was rescued, though injured and wearing a blood-stained shirt. By this time, the suspects had already received Ksh68,000 as part of the ransom payment.
The five suspects Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja were arrested near Quickmatt Thindigua. Two vehicles, a red Suzuki Swift and a white Mazda Demio believed to have been used in the crime, were seized.
A search of the cars uncovered a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, a tablet, and other items linked to the abduction.
Police confirmed the suspects are in custody and will be arraigned once investigations are concluded. Authorities further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reaffirming their commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Kiambu County.
