Former Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri has faulted the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) for accusing older parties of causing disunity in the Mt Kenya region.
In a statement shared on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Wambugu said it was misleading for a party formed just six months ago to accuse long-established outfits of dividing votes, yet it is also contributing to the fragmentation.
“Before Gachagua’s DCP was set up, the older parties he now blames were the ones holding the votes he boasts of. It is DCP itself that has caused the split,” Wambugu stated.
His remarks come amid Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sustained campaign urging the region to rally behind DCP, dismissing other parties as clones of UDA, which he accuses of betraying Mt Kenya despite receiving overwhelming support in the 2022 General Election.
Gachagua further alleged that President Ruto is behind the rise of splinter parties aimed at weakening the opposition in the region ahead of the 2027 elections.
He singled out Moses Kuria’s Chama Cha Kazi, which has fielded a candidate in the Mbeere North by-election, warning residents against voting for it.
“Ruto has got several wheelbarrows in the mountain to divide the votes. I said that Kiunjuri is a wheelbarrow, Kabogo is a wheelbarrow, and he even has two in Murang’a, one in Kiambu, one in Kirinyaga, and this one for Kuria,” Gachagua said.
