Grieving Family Appeals to Kiambu County for Help Transporting Father’s Body , After He Was Struck and Killed by County Vehicle

A grieving family is pleading for assistance from the Kiambu County Government following the tragic death of their father, 62-year-old Abel Kiele Inyangala, who was struck and killed by a county vehicle.

The incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. near Githunguri Primary School as Abel was on his way to a casual job at a clay works site. According to his family, he was knocked down by a Kiambu County van. He was rushed to Ruiru Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“He was hit by a vehicle from the Kiambu County Government while heading to work,” said his son. “He was taken to Ruiru Hospital, where it was confirmed that he had died.”

The family is facing immense emotional and financial difficulties, struggling to afford the transport and funeral expenses required to lay Abel to rest in their home area of Kakamega County.

Their plight is further compounded by concerns over the handling of the accident investigation. They questioned why the county van was removed from Ruiru Police Station before the investigation was completed.

Adding to their challenges, the family encountered complications after the body was moved to the mortuary in Ruiru. The facility informed them it could not store a body that had undergone a post-mortem and advised them to transfer it to Kenyatta University or Thika mortuaries. However, financial constraints have left the family unable to afford the transfer.

“At Ruiru, the askaris took their vehicle from the police station, collected the body, and brought it here. But this mortuary told us they don’t have the capacity to store a body that has undergone a post-mortem,” the son explained.

In their desperation, the family has made a heartfelt appeal to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi for help in transporting Abel’s body to Kakamega for burial.

“So, we are asking for help. The Kiambu County Government hit our kin, and they absolutely do not want to help us. We, as a family, are not doing well,” the son added.
