Kiambu County commissions 200 new model ECDE centres, boosting early childhood learning and enrollment by February

Kiambu County continues to transform early childhood education with the commissioning of 200 new model ECDE centres, scheduled for completion by February next year. This milestone brings the total number of centres built in the last three years to 512.

Each centre features two modern classrooms for PP1 and PP2, administrative offices, ablution blocks, and play areas designed to enhance the learning environment.

The county also provides a comprehensive feeding program, including daily uji, three boiled eggs per week, and weekly milk packets under the “Maziwa Freshi na Wamatangi” initiative. Enrollment has risen from 32,000 to 50,000 learners.

To support quality learning, 1,200 ECDE teachers have been promoted, and over 1,000 new teachers are being recruited. Partnerships with local universities allow teachers without diplomas to earn qualifications fully sponsored by the county.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi said the initiatives reflect the county’s commitment to nurturing early learning, improving access, and ensuring quality education for every child.
