The Kiambu courtroom was left in shock yesterday when the mother of a 17-year-old boy, allegedly killed by a group of men she hired to discipline him, requested permission from the judge to allow her son’s burial without her presence.
She cited the accumulating mortuary bill as her reason, surprising everyone in the room. This came after the court ordered that the mother be detained for 14 days to allow for a thorough investigation and for her to undergo a mental assessment.
The tragic incident unfolded in Karunga village, Ndumberi, when the teenager reportedly stole household items from their home. In a misguided attempt to discipline him, his mother allegedly hired unidentified men to discipline him.
However, this decision led to a fatal outcome, resulting in the boy’s untimely death causing anger within the community. The mother was later arrested and detained.
