Governor Kimani Wamatangi Transforms Healthcare in Kiambu with New Medical Equipment and Sector Reforms

Governor Kimani Wamatangi has taken decisive action to improve healthcare in Kiambu County by commissioning state-of-the-art medical equipment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. He unveiled advanced machines, including digital X-ray systems, ultrasound devices, and dialysis units, ensuring residents receive specialized treatment without traveling long distances.

To reinforce his commitment to healthcare development, Governor Wamatangi allocated KES 2.5 billion to equip health facilities across the county. Specifically, KES 500 million will upgrade existing hospitals, while KES 2 billion will fund the ongoing construction of six new Level Four and 26 Level Three hospitals.

Moreover, he prioritized replacing outdated hospital equipment with modern technology, significantly improving diagnostic capabilities. For instance, newly installed digital X-ray machines will enable doctors to monitor fetal health, assess kidney function, and detect conditions like prostate cancer at an early stage.

Beyond commissioning new medical equipment, Governor Wamatangi pledged further reforms in the sector. He announced plans to install a CT-Scan machine at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital and replace the aging CT-Scan machine at Thika Hospital. These enhancements will improve diagnostic accuracy and streamline patient care.

Already, these investments are making a tangible difference. Many residents, who previously had to seek specialized treatments in Nairobi, can now access quality healthcare within Kiambu. As a result, families are experiencing reduced financial strain, while referral hospitals are seeing a decline in overcrowding.

Healthcare professionals and patients have welcomed the initiative with optimism. For Mary Muthoni, a dialysis patient from Ruiru, the new dialysis machines at Ruiru Hospital are transformative. She expressed her relief, stating, “Traveling long distances for dialysis has been exhausting and expensive. Now that I can receive treatment closer to home, life has become much easier.”

Governor Wamatangi’s healthcare agenda marks a new era for Kiambu County, promising improved medical services, well-equipped hospitals, and efficient healthcare delivery. With these strategic reforms, residents can expect a higher standard of care, ensuring that quality medical services remain accessible to all.
