Kiambu Senator Secures Ksh. 15.2 Billion Allocation for County Development

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has successfully secured a record allocation of over Ksh. 15.2 billion from the National Government. This historic funding marks the highest allocation the county has received since the inception of devolution, aimed at enhancing various sectors within the county.

Senator Thang’wa detailed the allocation, breaking it down into several key areas aimed to enhance the county’s infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services. The funding distribution is as follows:

  1. Equitable Share: Ksh. 12.7 billion
    • These funds will be utilized for critical infrastructure projects, including roads, hospitals, youth programs, early childhood development centers (ECDs), salaries, county assembly operations, sports facilities, and agricultural initiatives.
    • Additionally, pending bills will be settled, ensuring smoother administration and service delivery.
  2. Community Health Promoters: Ksh. 94.7 million
    • This allocation aims to strengthen community health services, enhance preventive measures, and promote overall well-being.
  3. Roads Maintenance: Ksh. 335.4 million
    • The funds allocated for roads maintenance will contribute to safer and more efficient transportation networks within Kiambu County.
  4. Cities and Municipalities: Ksh. 2.07 billion
    • Urban development and municipal services will benefit from this substantial allocation, fostering growth and improving residents’ quality of life.

Senator Thang’wa emphasized the importance of these allocations in transforming Kiambu, noting, “I’m a proud Senator today, having secured more allocations for my home county, Kiambu. For the first time in devolution history, Kiambu will receive over Ksh. 15.2 billion from the National Government.”

Despite this substantial allocation, the Senator highlighted the need for the Kiambu County Governor to enhance local revenue collection efforts.

Currently, the county has collected Ksh. 3 billion against a projected Ksh. 8 billion over the past year. Senator Thang’wa urged the Governor to augment these resources through more effective own-source revenue collection to fully capitalize on the National Government’s support.

“For transparency and accountability, I urge the governor to prudently and diligently utilize these resources for the benefit of the people of Kiambu,” Senator Thang’wa stated, stressing the critical role of responsible financial management in ensuring that the allocated funds have a lasting impact on the community.
