Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has stepped up efforts to boost access to education after issuing a Free Day Secondary School cheque to Kasarini Secondary School, in a move aimed at supporting learners and easing the burden on parents.
During a visit to the school, the MP said the initiative is part of a broader commitment to ensure that every child in Kiambu Constituency has access to quality education without financial barriers. He emphasised that no learner should be left behind due to lack of school fees.
The programme seeks to fully support students in day secondary schools, effectively making education free at that level within the constituency. Waithaka noted that the move is expected to increase enrolment and retention rates, especially among learners from vulnerable backgrounds.
“As leaders, we must ensure every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed. Education is the foundation of our future,” he said.
The legislator also used the occasion to call on parents and local administrators to take an active role in identifying children who have dropped out of school and help them return to class. He urged the area chief and community members to work closely together to ensure that all eligible learners are enrolled.
“Let us work together to ensure no child remains out of school. Education in our day secondary schools is now entirely free,” he added.
The event was attended by key education and government officials, including the Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia and Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education Kigaya, alongside teachers, parents and students.
School leadership, led by Head Teacher Teresia, welcomed the support, noting that it will go a long way in improving learning conditions and ensuring students remain in school. Parents also expressed relief, saying the initiative will ease financial pressure and enable them to focus on supporting their children’s academic progress.
The Free Day Secondary School initiative is expected to strengthen the education sector in Kiambu Town by reducing dropout rates and promoting equal access to learning opportunities.
Waithaka reaffirmed his commitment to education-focused development, stating that investing in learners today is key to building a stronger and more prosperous future for the constituency.
The Kasarini Secondary School event now marks another milestone in ongoing efforts to improve education access and ensure every child in Kiambu Town has a fair chance to learn, grow and succeed.
