Nairobi, Kiambu and Nakuru among counties to receive rainfall this week, Met department warns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory urging residents in Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru and several other counties to prepare for more rainfall and chilly conditions this week.

In its weekly forecast covering September 30 to October 4, the Met Department said showers and cold evenings will affect multiple regions, with Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Bungoma, Turkana and Kakamega expected to receive consistent rainfall.

Sunny mornings will prevail in counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Meru, Embu and Tharaka, though light afternoon showers are forecast alongside cloudy nights mid-week.

Counties across Western, Nyanza and Rift Valley including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Bomet, Narok, and Uasin Gishu are set to experience heavier downpours and thunderstorms both during the day and at night. Maximum temperatures will range between 31°C and 32°C, while lows could drop to 7°C in cooler areas.

Meanwhile, Coast and North-Eastern regions such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera and Marsabit will remain largely sunny during the day, with cloudy nights and warmer conditions. Temperatures in these areas are expected to climb as high as 39°C.

The Met Department has advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and urged farmers to take advantage of the expected rainfall for planting and water harvesting.
