Ng’enda Level Three Hospital in Gatundu South to Get Sh45 Million Facelift

Residents of Gatundu South can breathe a sigh of relief as renovations for the Ng’enda Level 3 health centre are underway. Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced the good news during a visit to AIPCA Church in Kiamwangi town.

The Sh45 million project will transform the healthcare landscape in the region. The upgraded facility, planned to have 36 beds, will offer comprehensive medical services. This includes an outpatient wing, inpatient facilities with a dedicated 26-bed maternity ward and a 10-bed general ward, a laboratory, and even an operating theatre.

“We’ve finalized the tendering process, and construction will start soon,” Governor Wamatangi confirmed. “This project is a commitment to bringing essential healthcare services, including a lab and theatre, closer to the people of Gatundu South.”

The new facility is expected to alleviate the burden on Gatundu Level 5 Hospital, which currently struggles with a high number of patients. Governor Wamatangi also highlighted efforts to improve services at Mutati Health Centre, located within the same ward.

The Governor’s commitment to improving healthcare extends beyond Ng’enda. He announced the near completion of the Central Medical Store at Ruiru Level 4 Hospital. This centralized storage facility will ensure a steady supply of medical and non-medical supplies to all health facilities in Kiambu County.

Previously, the county faced challenges with inconsistent availability of supplies due to the lack of a central storage and distribution system. “This storage facility will guarantee reliable supplies, prevent stockouts and expired drugs, and ultimately lead to more cost-effective and sustainable healthcare delivery,” Governor Wamatangi explained.

Local leaders welcomed the project. MCA Kung’u Smart from Kiamwangi lauded it as a “game-changer,” particularly for expectant mothers who previously had to travel long distances to deliver. He also commended Governor Wamatangi for other development initiatives in the area, including the construction of model ECDE centers and Mutati Market.

Looking ahead, Governor Wamatangi assured residents of upcoming road rehabilitation projects in Kiamwangi ward once the rainy season concludes. These improvements will not only ease transportation but also benefit local farmers by facilitating the movement of their produce to markets.
