ODM rejects Azimio leadership changes, calls Uhuru-backed appointments illegal

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has rejected recent changes to the Azimio la Umoja coalition leadership, distancing itself from decisions endorsed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a formal letter dated February 5 and addressed to the Registrar of Political Parties, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen said the changes were unlawful and violated the coalition’s Deed of Agreement. The party protested a February 2 Azimio Coalition Council meeting that announced new leadership positions, including secretary general.

ODM maintains that such appointments must be agreed upon collectively by all coalition principals and not through unilateral decisions. The party says the meeting was convened without its knowledge or consent.

ODM has now asked the registrar to suspend and freeze implementation of the changes until full compliance with the coalition agreement is observed.
