Police in Kiambu County are intensifying their search for a suspect linked to the brutal rape and murder of a 62-year-old woman in Ruiru. Investigators have obtained crucial information that could lead to the apprehension of the individual responsible for the heinous crime.
According to authorities, the woman was attacked by a lone assailant at around 4 AM while walking to her farm in Ruiru. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect inserted sharp objects into the victim’s private parts, causing severe injuries and heavy bleeding.
Kiambu Police Commander Michael Muchiri, accompanied by homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the crime scene for the second time. Muchiri emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing rape, violence against women, and femicide.
“We are actually here to revisit this scene and also to indicate the seriousness with which we are taking all matters to do with rape, violence against women, and femicide,” said Muchiri.
Recounting the circumstances of the attack, Muchiri noted that the victim was walking through a bushy area while crossing from Matangi Area towards Ruiru. The isolated and overgrown path provided cover for the assailant to carry out the crime.
Despite the efforts of Good Samaritans who rushed the victim to the Ruiru Prison Dispensary, she succumbed to her injuries at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, where she was later transferred for specialized care.
