Residents of Mayaihíí and Kíanugu villages in Kikuyu sub county have taken to the streets to protest against the Kiambu County Government, accusing it of neglecting their basic needs. The residents are demanding immediate action to address the lack of water, electricity, and a crucial access road that has been closed.
The villagers claim that the access road, which they have used for many years, has been closed by the landowner. The landowner is demanding compensation from the county government, which has yet to be paid. This closure has severely impacted the residents, who now face significant difficulties in commuting between their villages and Gikambura especially school going children.
In addition to the road issue, the residents are also facing a severe water shortage. They blame the Kikuyu Water Company for failing to connect their villages to the water supply. Despite the county government allocating pipes to their villages, no actual piping has been done, forcing residents to travel long distances in search of water. The residents are urging Governor Kimani Wamatangi to intervene and ensure that the water connection is done.
Electricity is another major concern for the residents. They are calling for the repair of street lights to enhance security in the area. The lack of proper lighting has made the villages vulnerable to crime, and the residents are demanding immediate action to address this issue.
The residents are now appealing to the Kiambu County Government to fulfill its promises and compensate the landowner to reopen the access road. They are also urging the government to expedite the water and electricity connections to improve their living conditions.
