The Judiciary is in mourning following the death of Supreme Court Judge Ibrahim Mohammed, who passed away on December 17 at Aga Khan Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 69.
Appointed to Kenya’s Supreme Court in 2011, Justice Mohammed was widely respected for his calm demeanor, principled approach, and unwavering commitment to justice. During his tenure, he played a key role in landmark rulings, including several high-profile presidential election petitions that shaped Kenya’s legal and democratic landscape.
Colleagues, legal practitioners, and members of the public have paid tribute to his decades-long service to the justice system. Chief Justice Martha Koome described his death as “a profound loss to the judiciary and the nation.”
Justice Ibrahim Mohammed had been scheduled to retire in January 2026. His passing leaves a significant gap at the apex court, just weeks before his planned retirement, and marks the end of a distinguished legal career dedicated to upholding the rule of law in Kenya.
