Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has threatened to mobilise parents countrywide to protest delayed and insufficient release of school capitation funds by the government.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, January 6, Nyoro said the full first-term capitation should be disbursed by midterm to allow public schools to operate smoothly and uphold learners’ right to free basic education.
The lawmaker dismissed claims that schools have received adequate funding, warning that underfunding is disrupting operations and unfairly shifting the burden to parents. He insisted that the issue is not about pleading but demanding accountability from the government.
Nyoro said leaders and parents would closely monitor the government’s actions this term, noting that silence would amount to endorsing the violation of learners’ rights.
The warning comes as millions of learners resume classes nationwide. The Ministry of Education has confirmed the release of Ksh44.2 billion for Term One, with allocations spread across primary, junior and secondary education.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba urged school heads to avoid unauthorised levies and ensure responsible use of the funds.
