Senator Cherargei demands suspension of officers filmed assaulting youths in Nandi Hills

Senator Cherargei has called for immediate action against police officers captured on CCTV assaulting young men at a pool entertainment joint in Nandi Hills, an incident that has triggered public outrage and renewed scrutiny of police conduct.

The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows uniformed officers entering the premises and ordering patrons to the floor before using force during the operation. The incident is reported to have occurred on January 10.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei strongly condemned the officers’ actions, terming them unlawful, unprofessional and a violation of fundamental human rights.

He urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to interdict and suspend the officers involved to allow for independent investigations. The senator further called on the Senate Committee on National Security and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to urgently probe the matter and ensure accountability.

Cherargei noted that playing pool is not a criminal offence and warned that such incidents erode public trust in law enforcement. He vowed to pursue justice for the affected youths until those responsible are held to account.
