Education officials in Thika have launched an intensive mop-up exercise aimed at ensuring all learners who completed Grade 9 transition to secondary school.
The exercise targets parents and guardians who have delayed enrolling their children in Grade 10, with officials stressing that basic education is compulsory and learners should not remain at home without valid reasons.
Speaking during the flagging-off of Elimu Scholarship beneficiaries in Thika West Sub-County, Sub-County Director of Education Morris Sifuna said education officers, working with local administrators, will move across villages and estates to trace learners yet to report to school.
He warned that parents who deliberately keep children at home risk legal action, but urged those facing genuine challenges such as school fees or illness to seek help from education offices.
Sifuna said the government and its partners are committed to achieving 100 per cent transition and supporting vulnerable learners through scholarships and community collaboration.
