Former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in a move that reshapes Nairobi’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Havi was unveiled on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, where he appeared alongside Gachagua wearing DCP regalia. The party leader welcomed the seasoned lawyer, describing him as a key addition to DCP’s growing leadership and a strong voice on legislation, oversight and accountability.
Gachagua said Havi’s entry reflects the party’s intention to attract professionals seeking a platform grounded in integrity and public service. He noted that DCP is positioning itself as a political home for leaders ready to challenge the status quo.
Havi’s move follows his resignation from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in November 2024, ending a political association that began in 2021. He had earlier hinted at his realignment during a funeral in Murang’a County, where he publicly pledged loyalty to Gachagua.
The former LSK boss is now expected to vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat in 2027, potentially capitalising on an opening should the current MP pursue other elective office.
Observers say Havi’s entry could significantly strengthen DCP’s influence in Nairobi as the party intensifies preparations for the next polls.
