Limuru MP Kiragu aids Mirithu Girls after dorm fire

Students at Mirithu Girls Secondary School in Limuru are set to resume learning with renewed hope after Limuru MP John Kiragu Chege donated 100 mattresses following a fire incident that destroyed one of the school dormitories.

The fire, which occurred earlier this week, left affected students counting losses after personal belongings and bedding were destroyed in the incident. While the exact cause of the fire had not been officially communicated by the time of publication, the destruction sparked concern among parents, teachers, and local leaders over the welfare of the learners.

In response to the incident, the Limuru lawmaker moved in to support the school by donating mattresses aimed at helping the affected students settle back into school life as normalcy gradually returns.

Speaking after the donation, Kiragu said the support was meant to restore comfort and dignity to the learners as they continue with their education despite the difficult experience.

He noted that education remains a priority and assured the school community that leaders and well-wishers would continue standing with them during the recovery period.

“This support is aimed at helping the affected students regain comfort and dignity as they continue with their studies despite this difficult moment,” the MP stated.

The donation was received positively by members of the school community, with parents and residents praising the gesture as timely and necessary considering the disruption caused by the fire.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges schools face during emergencies, especially when students suddenly lose essential items such as bedding and uniforms. Education stakeholders often urge quick intervention in such situations to minimize trauma and interruptions to learning.

Kiragu also took the opportunity to thank individuals, leaders, and members of the public who have continued showing solidarity with the school following the unfortunate incident.

He praised the community spirit demonstrated in supporting the affected students and encouraged more stakeholders to continue offering assistance where possible.

Although learning activities are expected to continue uninterrupted, the school is now expected to assess the extent of the damage and explore recovery measures as efforts continue to restore the destroyed facilities.

The fire incident has drawn attention across Limuru, with many residents expressing sympathy for the students and calling for enhanced safety measures in schools to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As students return to class, the mattress donation is expected to ease immediate pressure on affected learners and provide a sense of stability after days of uncertainty.
