Over 300 police chaplains meet in Limuru for national wellness conference

More than 300 Protestant chaplains serving within the National Police Service (NPS) have convened in Limuru for a four-day national conference aimed at strengthening spiritual, emotional and professional support within the Service.

The conference, dubbed The Heart of the Father Conference 2026, is being held at the Clarence Matheny Leadership Training Institute under the theme The Voice of the Father, drawn from John 10:27. It brings together chaplains from across the country who offer pastoral care, counselling and moral guidance to police officers and their families.

The official opening was presided over by Administration Police Service Director of Complaints and Quality Assurance, Mr Haron Nthiga, who represented Deputy Inspector-General APS, Mr Gilbert Masengeli. He urged chaplains and officers to remain resilient amid the pressures of policing, noting that chaplaincy plays a critical role in emotional wellbeing, ethical conduct and spiritual growth.

Key discussions at the forum include mental wellness, stress management, trauma care and counselling approaches for officers exposed to demanding and often risky duties. Integrity and ethical leadership have also taken centre stage, with sessions exploring ways chaplains can support professionalism and accountability within the Service.

Participants are further engaging on financial management, work-life balance and family stability, areas seen as essential in reducing stress and improving officers’ overall quality of life. The conference is also addressing police-community relations, equipping chaplains to promote trust, dialogue and peaceful coexistence between officers and the public.

Organisers say the conference is expected to enhance chaplains’ capacity to provide holistic support, contributing to a more disciplined, resilient and community-oriented National Police Service.
