Culvert installation begins in Ting’ang’a Ward

Kiambu Municipality has officially commenced the installation of culverts in Ting’ang’a Ward in a move aimed at strengthening road durability and improving storm water drainage in the area.

The project, which began today, is part of a broader infrastructure improvement plan designed to protect roads from damage during heavy rains and reduce flooding in vulnerable sections. Residents have been advised that some roads will be temporarily closed to allow smooth execution of the works.

Gatende Road will remain closed for the next four days as construction teams install the culverts. Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to cooperate with authorities and use alternative routes as directed on site.

According to the Municipality, the intervention is intended to provide a long-term solution to drainage challenges that have previously affected road conditions in Ting’ang’a Ward. Poor drainage has in the past contributed to rapid road deterioration, especially during rainy seasons.

The works are being carried out in close collaboration with Ting’ang’a Ward MCA Lawrence Mwaura and Kiambu Municipal Manager John Njoroge. Their coordination, officials say, is meant to ensure that the project is implemented efficiently and that service delivery reaches residents effectively.

Under the leadership of Governor Kimani Wamatangi, infrastructure development continues to be prioritised across the county. The county administration maintains that proper drainage systems are critical to safeguarding public investment in roads and preventing costly repairs in the future.

“A road without proper drainage is simply a disaster waiting for the next rainy season,” Governor Wamatangi has previously stated, underscoring the importance of proactive infrastructure planning.

County officials emphasise that the installation of culverts is not just about immediate repairs but about building resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding seasonal weather changes. By reinforcing drainage systems, the county aims to minimise disruptions caused by flooding while extending the lifespan of newly constructed and rehabilitated roads.

Residents have welcomed the move, noting that improved drainage will enhance accessibility and safety within the ward.

The municipality has assured the public that the closure of Gatende Road is temporary and that normal traffic flow will resume once the works are complete. Authorities are urging patience and cooperation as the project progresses.

The culvert installation marks another step in Kiambu County’s ongoing efforts to deliver practical solutions and tangible development at the grassroots level.
