Kiambu hosts Kisumu team on revenue growth strategies

Kiambu County has hosted a delegation from Kisumu County on a three-day benchmarking mission focused on strengthening revenue collection systems.

The visiting team, drawn from the Kisumu County Assembly Ad Hoc Committee on Revenue, is seeking to learn from Kiambu’s success in growing its own-source revenue over the past three years.

According to Governor Kimani Wamatangi, Kiambu has recorded a steady increase in local revenue, rising from Ksh 2.9 billion to Ksh 5.45 billion during the period under review.

The growth has been attributed to a combination of digitisation, improved systems, and firm leadership commitment aimed at sealing revenue leakages and enhancing efficiency.

Despite the sharp rise in collections, the county has maintained that it did not introduce new levies, instead focusing on maximising existing streams through better management and accountability.

The Kisumu delegation, led by Committee Chairperson Millicent Omuya, commended Kiambu for its structured approach to revenue collection and the adoption of digital solutions.

They noted that the strategies implemented have not only boosted revenue but also improved transparency and service delivery.

The benchmarking visit is expected to inform Kisumu’s own revenue enhancement plans as counties continue to explore sustainable ways of increasing local income without overburdening residents.

County governments across the country have increasingly turned to technology and reforms to strengthen their financial independence and reduce reliance on national government allocations.
