Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has stepped up efforts to improve learning conditions in public schools, with the construction of additional classrooms at Mungai Chengecha Primary School now taking shape.
The ongoing project is expected to ease congestion that has long affected learners at the institution, where overcrowded classrooms have posed challenges to both pupils and teachers. According to the MP, four classrooms have already been completed, with two more currently under construction, bringing the total to six new learning spaces.
Once complete, the additional classrooms are set to significantly improve the learning environment by reducing the number of pupils per class. This move is expected to enhance concentration among learners, improve teacher-student interaction, and ultimately boost academic performance.
Education stakeholders in the area have welcomed the development, noting that infrastructure expansion remains a key pillar in addressing challenges facing public schools, particularly in rapidly growing areas like Kiambu Town. With rising enrolment numbers, many schools have struggled to keep up with demand, leading to overcrowded classes and strained resources.
Machua Waithaka reiterated his commitment to investing in education, describing it as a foundation for long-term development in the constituency. He noted that creating a conducive learning environment is critical in shaping the future of young learners and ensuring they are well-equipped to compete academically.
The project is part of broader efforts by the MP to support education through infrastructure development, with a focus on improving access and quality of learning. Local leaders and parents have expressed optimism that such initiatives will bring lasting change, especially in public schools that continue to face resource limitations.
Residents have also lauded the progress, saying the additional classrooms will not only decongest existing facilities but also restore dignity in learning spaces. They expressed hope that similar projects will be rolled out in other schools facing similar challenges.
As construction continues, attention now shifts to timely completion and equipping of the new classrooms to ensure they are ready for use. The development signals a continued push by local leadership to address key education challenges and support learners in achieving their full potential.
