Kiambaa MP John Kawanjiku launches cabro works in Ndenderu

Kiambaa Member of Parliament John Kawanjiku has announced ongoing cabro installation works in Ndenderu Town Centre, a move aimed at improving the trading environment and addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges.

The project, which is currently underway, seeks to eliminate the persistent problem of dust during dry seasons and mud during rainy periods—issues that traders and residents say have affected business operations for decades.

Speaking on the development, Kawanjiku said the initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade local infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for small-scale traders who form the backbone of the local economy.

“For years, traders and the Ndenderu community have had to contend with harsh conditions caused by poor road surfaces. This project is meant to bring lasting change,” he said.

The installation of cabro paving blocks is expected to significantly improve accessibility within the town centre, making it easier for customers, traders and transport operators to move around. The upgrade is also anticipated to enhance hygiene and overall aesthetics, contributing to a more organised and dignified trading space.

Residents have welcomed the project, noting that the improved infrastructure will not only support businesses but also uplift the image of Ndenderu as a growing commercial hub within Kiambu County.

Traders in the area say that the dusty conditions previously discouraged customers, especially during dry and windy days, while muddy surfaces during the rainy season made it difficult to operate effectively.

With the ongoing works nearing completion, expectations are high that the transformation will attract more customers and boost daily business activities.

Kawanjiku emphasised that improving market conditions is key to supporting micro and small enterprises, which play a crucial role in job creation and economic growth at the grassroots level.

He noted that the government, in collaboration with local leaders, remains committed to investing in infrastructure projects that directly impact wananchi, particularly those in informal trading sectors.

The Ndenderu cabro project is part of a wider push to modernise urban centres within Kiambaa Constituency, ensuring they are better equipped to support growing populations and expanding businesses.

Once completed, the project is expected to not only improve mobility but also reduce maintenance costs associated with unpaved surfaces, offering a long-term solution to challenges that have affected the area for years.
