A daycare operator in Wangige Market has been arraigned in court on charges of sexually exploiting minors.
Teresia Wambui Kihagi, who runs a daycare center catering to over 10 children aged between two and four years, is accused of engaging the minors in sexual activities and recording the acts.
“The respondent is alleged to have been engaging the minors who are aged between two and four years in sexual activities, and touching their genitals while recording of them while on the act in the said day care,” reads a court document in part.
According to court documents, Kihagi’s phone was confiscated while she was attempting to destroy evidence.
The investigating officer, Nicodemus Musembi, stated that a probe will be conducted on her phone numbers to identify the recipients of the explicit videos and scrutinize the Equity paybill used by her daycare.
Musembi also told the court that recording statements from affected parents has been challenging and may require the assistance of an intermediary.
He requested that the suspect be detained for 14 days at King’eeero police station in Kabete to facilitate further investigations and a mental assessment.
The victims have been taken to different health facilities for medical examination.
