Wamatangi distributes farm inputs in Githunguri

Farmers in Gathanje area, Githunguri Township Ward, have received a major boost after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi led the distribution of farm inputs aimed at improving agricultural productivity and strengthening livelihoods.

The exercise, carried out in Githunguri Sub-County, saw hundreds of local farmers benefit from essential inputs designed to support planting and increase yields. The initiative forms part of the county government’s broader strategy to empower small-scale farmers and enhance food security.

Speaking during the distribution, Governor Wamatangi thanked residents for their support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers across the county.

“Asante sana watu wa Gathanje. Tutarudi tena,” he said, assuring residents that similar programmes will continue in other areas.

The governor noted that access to affordable farm inputs remains a key challenge for many farmers, often affecting production levels and income. He said the county is focused on easing this burden by providing targeted support to ensure farmers are well-equipped for each planting season.

Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, saying the inputs will significantly reduce their farming costs and help them achieve better harvests. Many described the programme as timely, especially amid rising prices of seeds and other agricultural supplies.

Local leaders present at the event emphasized the importance of such interventions in sustaining agriculture as a key economic activity in Githunguri. They noted that many households depend on farming for both food and income, making continued support critical.

The distribution also highlighted the county government’s ongoing efforts to engage directly with communities and address grassroots challenges through practical solutions.

Agriculture remains central to Kiambu’s economy, with initiatives like this expected to not only boost production but also improve household incomes and overall economic stability.

Residents expressed optimism that the continued rollout of farm input programmes will transform farming in the region, enabling more families to achieve food security and financial resilience.

As the planting season approaches, farmers in Gathanje are now better prepared, with renewed hope that improved support from the county will translate into higher productivity and better returns.

The initiative underscores Governor Wamatangi’s focus on agriculture as a driver of development, with more programmes expected across the county.
