Ndumberi ICT hub opens doors to youth

Young people in Kiambu Town Constituency who recently completed their Form Four studies have been urged to take advantage of free digital skills training being offered at the Jitume ICT Hub in Ndumberi.

Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has called on parents and guardians to encourage their children to enroll in the ongoing ICT Stage One training programme, saying the initiative is designed to equip youth with practical skills needed in the modern digital economy.

According to the MP, the training is aimed at ensuring young people remain productive after completing secondary school while also opening pathways to employment, online opportunities and entrepreneurship.

The classes are currently underway at the Jitume Centre in Ndumberi and are being offered free of charge, making them accessible to young people from different backgrounds across the constituency.

Waithaka noted that digital literacy has become an essential skill in today’s world, with technology increasingly shaping education, business and the job market. He emphasized the need to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the digital space rather than allowing them to remain idle at home after school.

The lawmaker encouraged parents to actively support their children by helping them enroll in the programme and take advantage of the learning resources available at the centre.

The training is expected to introduce participants to fundamental ICT skills that can serve as a foundation for more advanced studies and digital careers in the future. It also seeks to expose learners to online platforms and opportunities that can help them generate income and develop professional competencies.

The Jitume programme is part of broader efforts to promote digital inclusion and empower young people with skills that match the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, noting that access to free digital training can play a significant role in addressing youth unemployment by enhancing employability and encouraging innovation among young people.

As the classes continue, local leaders are hopeful that more young people will enroll and take advantage of the opportunity to gain skills that can improve their future prospects.

With technology increasingly becoming a key driver of economic growth, the Ndumberi ICT Hub is expected to serve as an important centre for nurturing digital talent and empowering the next generation of innovators and professionals in Kiambu Town Constituency.
