Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has officially launched a newly drilled borehole at Ndiko Primary School grounds, a project set to serve Ndiko Primary School, the neighbouring secondary school, and surrounding communities including Kahembeta villages.
The borehole, which is already flowing after successful drilling, was commissioned during a community event held at the school grounds, bringing together parents, learners and residents who welcomed the long-awaited water project. The initiative is expected to significantly ease water shortages that have for years affected schools and nearby households.
Speaking during the launch, Kururia said the project reflects his administration’s continued focus on addressing basic service delivery challenges, particularly access to clean and reliable water in learning institutions and rural villages.
He emphasised that schools must have stable water supply to support hygiene, sanitation and overall learning conditions, noting that water scarcity has often disrupted operations in many institutions across the constituency.
“Water is life, and no child should struggle to learn in an environment where basic needs are not met,” he said.
The MP added that the borehole will not only benefit Ndiko Primary School but will also extend its impact to the adjacent secondary school and nearby villages such as Kahembeta, ensuring that both learners and residents have access to clean water.
The project has been fully funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), which Kururia said continues to play a key role in delivering grassroots development projects directly to communities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising water projects, noting that sustainable access to clean water remains one of the most pressing needs in the constituency.
The event was also attended by several leaders, including Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Gatundu South MP G. G. Kagombe, Gituamba Ward MCA Hon. Murima, and aspiring senator Kogi Investor, who commended the initiative and urged continued investment in community-driven development.
Residents and school officials expressed relief, saying the borehole will reduce the burden of fetching water from distant sources and improve overall sanitation and daily operations within the schools.
As the project becomes fully operational, it is expected to provide long-term support to both educational institutions and surrounding villages, marking a significant step in improving access to essential services in Gatundu North Constituency.
