Machua Waithaka delivers free education cheques to Ting’ang’a schools

Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has intensified his Free Day Secondary School Initiative after issuing cheques to two schools in Ting’ang’a and renewing calls for all school dropouts to return to class.

The legislator on Wednesday visited HGM Ting’ang’a Secondary School and DEB Ting’ang’a Secondary School, where he presented the free education cheques to parents, teachers, and students as part of the ongoing programme aimed at eliminating school fees in day secondary schools across Kiambu Constituency.

Speaking during the event, Waithaka reiterated that no student in any day secondary school within the constituency should pay school fees, insisting that education must remain accessible to every child regardless of their background.

“Education is now truly free in our day secondary schools, and no child should be left behind because of school fees,” he said.

The MP also challenged parents, local administrators, and community leaders to work together in identifying children who have dropped out of school and ensure they return to learning institutions.

He specifically called upon the area Chief and parents to take personal responsibility in tracing learners who are still out of school despite the free education initiative already being rolled out across the constituency.

According to Waithaka, the programme is meant not only to ease the financial burden on families but also to improve school enrolment and create equal learning opportunities for all children.

The event brought together education stakeholders, parents, teachers, and local leaders from the area. HGM Ting’ang’a Secondary School Principal Mr. Lawrence Mungai and DEB Ting’ang’a Secondary School Principal Mr. Charles Muriithi attended the function alongside Senior Chief Mr. Njihia.

Parents welcomed the initiative, saying the programme has come as a relief at a time when many households continue to struggle with the rising cost of living and education expenses.

The Free Day Secondary School Initiative has become one of the flagship education programmes within Kiambu Town Constituency, with leaders saying it aims to improve access to education while reducing the number of students dropping out due to financial challenges.

Waithaka maintained that investing in education remains one of the most effective ways of empowering communities and securing the future of young people in Kiambu.

He said the constituency leadership will continue supporting schools and learners to ensure every child gets an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
