FKF Kiambu applauds Wamatangi over Ksh2.7 million

Football teams in Kiambu County have received a major financial boost after the county government released Ksh2.7 million in sponsorship support to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kiambu Branch.

The branch has now publicly thanked Governor Kimani Wamatangi for honouring a pledge made to support football development and sports activities across the county.

In a letter dated May 5, 2026, addressed to Governor Wamatangi, FKF Kiambu Branch Chairman Danson Njuguna confirmed that the funds had successfully reflected in the branch account months after the initial sponsorship commitment was made.

According to the letter, the governor had pledged the sponsorship on December 7, 2025, before the funds were eventually disbursed on May 4, 2026.

“We are deeply grateful for this support towards the beautiful game of football alongside all other infrastructural initiatives within the county,” part of the letter read.

The federation branch noted that the financial support is expected to play a key role in strengthening football activities within Kiambu County, where local teams have for years struggled with inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and limited sponsorship opportunities.

Officials from the branch assured the county government that the money would be utilised responsibly for the benefit of football teams and sports development programmes within the region.

The latest support is expected to benefit several grassroots football clubs and tournaments organised under the FKF Kiambu Branch umbrella, as stakeholders continue pushing for more investment in sports development at the county level.

Sports leaders in the county have repeatedly called for increased financial support to nurture young talent, improve competition standards, and create opportunities for upcoming players seeking professional careers in football.

The acknowledgment by FKF Kiambu comes at a time when county governments are increasingly being urged to invest more in youth programmes, sports infrastructure, and talent development initiatives.

Governor Wamatangi’s administration has in recent months rolled out several projects targeting youth empowerment, including support for sports activities, bursary programmes, and community development initiatives.

The football fraternity in Kiambu says the Ksh2.7 million sponsorship will help ease financial pressure on teams and support ongoing football activities within the county.

Stakeholders now hope the partnership between the county government and football administrators will continue to grow as efforts intensify to strengthen grassroots football and identify new talent from the region.
