Kiambu Town Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka has reaffirmed his commitment to accessible education after issuing Free Day Secondary School cheques to students at ACK Kiu River Secondary School.
The event marked another milestone in the implementation of the Free Day Secondary Education programme within Kiambu Constituency, a project that seeks to eliminate school fees in all day secondary schools across the area.
Speaking during the event attended by parents, teachers, students, and local administrators, the MP stated that the programme is now in its second year and continues to ease the financial burden on families struggling to educate their children.
Waithaka maintained that no student in Kiambu Constituency’s day secondary schools should be sent home over school fees, insisting that education must remain fully accessible to every child regardless of their background.
“Education is completely free, and no child should stay at home when the opportunity to learn is available,” he said.
The legislator also called upon parents and area administrators, including Area Chief Mr. Ikinya, to identify children who have dropped out of school and help return them to class.
According to the MP, ensuring every child remains in school is critical in shaping a better future for the constituency and reducing social challenges affecting young people.
During the visit, Waithaka also praised students from ACK Kiu River Secondary School who recently advanced to the regional level in a science congress competition after developing an innovative farm crop pump project.
The MP described the students’ creativity and determination as a sign of the untapped talent among young people in Kiambu.
He encouraged learners to continue embracing innovation and technology, saying such ideas could open doors to future opportunities and economic empowerment.
“I was inspired by the students’ innovation and their determination to solve real-life problems affecting farmers. Innovation remains one of the surest ways young people can create opportunities for themselves,” he noted.
The gathering also included a message of encouragement from Isaiah 46:4 shared by Madam Loise Ng’ang’a, who urged parents, students, and teachers to remain steadfast in faith and trust in God while investing in education.
Waithaka reiterated that his leadership remains focused on ensuring every child in Kiambu Constituency receives quality education and equal opportunities to succeed.
The Free Day Secondary Education initiative has continued gaining support from parents within the constituency, with many saying it has significantly reduced the financial pressure associated with secondary school education.
