Police in Gatundu North have arrested a suspect linked to a series of theft incidents targeting ACK Church Kamwangi following a dramatic overnight operation aided by CCTV footage.
The suspect was reportedly captured on the church’s surveillance cameras before he was later nabbed inside the church compound during yet another alleged break-in attempt.
According to reports from the area, the suspect was found in possession of tools believed to have been used in carrying out the thefts, strengthening investigations into the repeated incidents that had raised concern among church members and residents.
The arrest has been welcomed by members of the ACK Church Kamwangi congregation who had for weeks expressed frustration over recurring theft cases at the place of worship.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly led police officers and church officials to Githurai, where some of the stolen items are believed to have been sold or hidden.
The recovery mission marked a major breakthrough in investigations as authorities continue tracing additional stolen property and possible accomplices linked to the incidents.
The suspect is currently being held at Kamwangi Police Station as investigations continue.
Residents and church members praised the role played by CCTV technology in helping identify and track down the suspect, saying the installation of surveillance systems has become increasingly important in addressing rising insecurity cases.
Locals also commended the cooperation between church leaders, residents, and police officers, noting that community vigilance played a major role in the successful arrest.
The repeated theft incidents had caused anxiety among worshippers, with some residents calling for stronger security measures around churches and public institutions in the area.
Security officials have since warned individuals involved in criminal activities that authorities are intensifying surveillance and investigations to curb rising cases of theft and break-ins.
Community leaders further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies in good time.
The incident has sparked discussion among residents on the growing importance of technology in crime prevention and investigations, especially in urban and peri-urban areas.
As investigations continue, residents in Kamwangi are hoping the arrest will help restore calm and deter further criminal activities targeting churches and businesses within the area.
Authorities are expected to arraign the suspect in court once investigations are completed.
