Kiambu County has continued its push to improve public healthcare services following ongoing renovation works at Kiambu Level Five Hospital aimed at enhancing patient care and modernising critical medical facilities.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi visited the hospital to inspect the progress of the upgrades, which target several key sections of the facility. The renovations form part of the county government’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery for residents.
Among the areas undergoing rehabilitation are the endoscopy theatre, patient waiting areas, sections of the administrative offices and the paediatric ward. County officials say the improvements are designed to create a more efficient, comfortable and patient-friendly environment.
The renovation of the endoscopy theatre is expected to support specialised medical procedures and improve access to diagnostic services, while the upgraded paediatric ward aims to provide better care for children receiving treatment at the hospital.
The county government is also constructing a new public ablution block within the hospital compound. The facility is expected to improve sanitation standards and provide greater convenience for patients, caregivers and visitors accessing the hospital.
During the inspection tour, Governor Wamatangi emphasised the county’s commitment to improving healthcare standards through investments in infrastructure, equipment and specialised medical services.
The visit also marked another milestone for the hospital after the commissioning of a new newborn unit. The facility is expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services by providing specialised care for newborn babies requiring close medical attention.
Health officials noted that the new unit will help address the growing demand for neonatal services and improve outcomes for infants born with medical complications or those requiring intensive monitoring after birth.
The commissioning of the newborn unit comes at a time when counties across the country are seeking to reduce infant mortality rates and improve access to quality healthcare for mothers and children.
Residents have welcomed the developments, expressing optimism that the upgrades will improve the quality of care offered at one of the county’s busiest referral hospitals.
The ongoing improvements are part of a wider healthcare transformation programme being undertaken by the county government, which has focused on upgrading facilities, expanding specialised services and improving access to treatment across Kiambu.
County leaders say investments in healthcare remain a priority as demand for quality medical services continues to rise.
Once completed, the renovations and newly commissioned facilities are expected to significantly enhance service delivery, improve patient experiences and strengthen Kiambu Level Five Hospital’s capacity to serve residents from across the county and beyond.
