Raila Odinga Mourns the Loss of Longtime Bodyguard George Oduor

George Oduor, the longtime bodyguard and trusted aide to Raila Odinga, passed away on Wednesday evening at Nairobi West Hospital. His unwavering dedication and professionalism earned him widespread respect during his three decades of service to Odinga.

Oduor’s death marks the end of an era for Odinga’s security detail. Having joined the Odinga family in the late 1980s, he initially worked for Raila’s father, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Over the years, Oduor became known for his calm demeanor and vigilance. He remained committed to ensuring Odinga’s safety, even during politically turbulent times.

The news of Oduor’s passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from political figures and close associates. Among those mourning him is Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Etale described Oduor as a loyal friend and dependable figure. “This is one man who stood by me at all costs. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest easy, George. Wah!” Etale wrote.

Raila Odinga also expressed his sorrow, emphasizing Oduor’s integral role in his life and career. “George has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide. He was dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years, I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already.“Odinga said. His discreet yet impactful presence made him a respected figure in Kenyan politics. As the Odinga family and the ODM party mourn his loss, Oduor’s legacy as a protector and confidant remains etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
