Kericho delegation visits Kiambu Assembly

The Kiambu County Assembly has hosted a delegation from the Kericho County Assembly in a peer learning engagement aimed at sharing best practices in legislation and strengthening parliamentary procedures.

The visit focused on institutional learning, with members from Kericho County Assembly engaging their Kiambu counterparts on how to improve law-making processes, committee work, and overall legislative efficiency.

Kiambu-based legal practitioner and Assembly representative Charles Thiongo, who hosted the delegation, said the engagement highlighted the growing role of county assemblies in shaping governance and development at the devolved level.

He noted that the visiting team expressed satisfaction with the legal and institutional frameworks that Kiambu County Assembly has put in place, particularly in the enactment of key laws affecting priority sectors such as Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), agriculture and farm inputs distribution, as well as trade and investment.

According to Thiongo, these legislative milestones reflect the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening governance structures that directly impact service delivery and economic growth within the county. He added that such peer learning exchanges are important in building capacity among county assemblies and ensuring consistency in legislative quality across the country.

The delegation from Kericho was taken through various operational aspects of the Kiambu County Assembly, including committee systems, legislative drafting processes, and oversight mechanisms that support effective governance. The exchange also provided an opportunity for both assemblies to discuss challenges faced in county legislation and possible solutions to improve efficiency and accountability.

Thiongo emphasized that Kiambu County Assembly is steadily positioning itself as a leading institution in law-making in Kenya’s devolved system. He said the Assembly remains committed to strengthening its legal frameworks and ensuring that all enacted laws respond to the needs of residents and support long-term development goals.

He further stated that the institution will continue pursuing excellence in legislative work through continuous learning, collaboration, and institutional reforms aimed at improving service delivery.

The visit was also seen as part of a broader effort to enhance inter-county collaboration, where county assemblies share knowledge and experiences to strengthen governance structures across the country.

As devolution continues to evolve, such engagements are expected to play a key role in harmonizing legislative practices and improving the quality of governance at the county level. Both assemblies expressed optimism that the exchange will lead to stronger institutional ties and improved legislative output in the future.
