Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has recently accused former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi of withholding important government documents. Murkomen claims that Muturi violated confidentiality rules, which are crucial for national security. He made these accusations during a press briefing, warning that Muturi’s actions could have serious legal consequences.
Murkomen pointed out that as Attorney General, Muturi had access to highly classified government documents, many marked as “top secret.” He criticized Muturi for allegedly keeping these documents in digital form, which he called irregular and potentially illegal. Murkomen compared this situation to the 2016 case of former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was criticized for using her personal email to handle classified information.
Murkomen also rejected Muturi’s claims that President William Ruto had tried to involve him in corrupt activities. He challenged Muturi to provide evidence of these accusations to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), rather than making public allegations. Murkomen urged other investigative bodies, such as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), to look into Muturi’s handling of sensitive documents.
Adding to the tension, Muturi recently claimed that the government withdrew his security detail to intimidate him. He said his security team was told not to report for duty because of his criticism of the administration. Murkomen denied these claims, explaining that the withdrawal might be a routine adjustment since Muturi is no longer a cabinet member. He promised to check with the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, for more details.
