Kiambu County rolls out 500 point of sale devices

Kiambu County is set to roll out an additional 500 Point of Sale (POS) devices across various revenue collection points as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital revenue system and improve service delivery.

According to the County Department of Finance and Economic Planning, the devices are currently undergoing configuration by ICT officers before being deployed to designated paypoints across the county.

The rollout forms part of the continued implementation of the Kiambu County Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which is designed to streamline operations, enhance accountability, and improve efficiency in revenue management.

Once fully deployed, the Point of Sale devices will be used to support collection across multiple revenue streams, including parking fees, cess, quarry charges, slaughterhouse fees, market dues, veterinary services, regulatory fees, county library services, and tourism-related payments.

County officials say the initiative is aimed at sealing revenue leakages and ensuring that all collections are properly recorded through a centralized digital system. The move is also expected to improve transparency by reducing reliance on manual payment systems that have previously been prone to inefficiencies.

The Finance Department notes that the expansion of the Point of Sale network is part of a broader strategy to modernize revenue collection infrastructure and align county systems with digital governance standards.

ICT officers are currently working on setting up and testing the devices to ensure seamless integration with the ERP platform before deployment to field officers and revenue collection teams.

Once operational, the devices will allow for real-time transaction tracking, enabling the county to monitor collections more effectively and respond faster to any discrepancies or system challenges.

The county government has in recent years intensified efforts to digitize its financial operations, with the ERP system serving as a central platform for managing revenue, procurement, and other administrative processes.

Officials argue that the continued rollout of digital tools is expected to boost efficiency in service delivery while also improving the county’s ability to meet its revenue targets.

The latest deployment comes at a time when counties across the country are increasingly adopting technology-driven solutions to enhance financial accountability and reduce leakages in public funds management.

Residents and traders operating within Kiambu’s various revenue points are expected to interact more with the digital system once the devices are fully rolled out, marking another step in the county’s ongoing digital transformation agenda.
