Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi Under Investigation: Key Evidence Recovered in Corruption Probe

EACC detectives have recovered critical evidence in an ongoing corruption investigation involving Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi. During an operation conducted today, investigators seized cash totalling Ksh.12 million and USD 13,000 from the governor’s residence. These funds are suspected to be proceeds of corruption, signalling a pivotal moment in the inquiry.

The search warrant operation is part of a wider investigation into financial and procurement malpractices within the County Government of Kiambu. The inquiry is centered on allegations of conflict of interest, procurement irregularities, and abuse of office in the awarding of a controversial contract. The contract, valued at Ksh 230 million, was awarded to M/s Filtronic International Limited during the 2022/2023 financial year for the supply, delivery, installation, testing, training, commissioning, and support services of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Additionally, investigators are examining allegations that county officials engaged in unethical practices, including trading with the county and receiving payments amounting to Ksh 1.5 billion through irregular procurement processes and fictitious supply claims. Such activities are said to violate public finance management and procurement regulations.

Several individuals have been arrested for questioning alongside Governor Wamatangi. Among those detained are senior county officials and business associates:

The investigation aims to hold accountable all individuals involved in corruption and abuse of office. The findings will determine the next course of action, which may include prosecuting those found culpable, seizing unexplained assets, and confiscating proceeds linked to corrupt practices.
