Ride-hailing firm Bolt has begun equipping its vehicles with dashboard cameras in a bid to improve safety and resolve disputes between drivers and passengers with clear evidence.
The new feature, launched in partnership with Driver Technologies, uses a smartphone app that doubles as a dash cam. It records both inside the vehicle and the road ahead. Drivers will receive one month of free access to the app, after which they will enjoy a 75 percent discount. Recorded footage will be available to Bolt’s customer support team for review during conflicts.
Bolt Rides General Manager Dimmy Kanyankole said the move responds to repeated requests from drivers who wanted to document their trips but were often deterred by the high cost of traditional dash cams.
“Driver partners frequently share that dash cams provide not only enhanced security and peace of mind, but also greater accountability in their trips. Unfortunately, the cost of acquiring a reliable device has often been a barrier,” said Kanyankole.
He added that discounted access to premium dash cam features empowers drivers with tools to improve safety, clarify incidents accurately, and build trust between riders and drivers.
According to Bolt, the initiative will help reduce safety incidents by supplying verifiable evidence that can assist customer support teams, police, and insurance companies in resolving cases.
Although installation of the dash cams remains optional, the company urged drivers to take advantage of the initiative, saying it is in their best interest since most complaints usually end up as one person’s word against another.
