Phase one of the project, which began last year, has seen renovations of existing spectator stands completed. The long-stalled stand has also been finalized, restoring full seating capacity.
The perimeter wall is almost complete and includes modern kiosks that will be allocated at no cost to current traders in Thika town.
Other works in progress include a basketball court, construction of a swimming pool, and drilling of a high-yield borehole. The borehole will be solarized to supply water to the swimming pool and sustain the football field’s grass.
According to the county, the next phase, slated for implementation within the current financial year, will cover upgrades to the football pitch, construction of an indoor arena, a VIP spectator stand, and the main entrance gate.
The project is part of the county’s push to improve sports facilities and create income opportunities for locals while positioning Thika as a sporting hub in the region.
