Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi Ndung’u was on Monday arraigned before a Nairobi court to answer charges over an alleged fraudulent land deal worth Ksh10 million.
Koimburi faced four counts, including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, obtaining land registration by false pretenses, and uttering false documents. The charge sheet indicated that the MP, alongside others not before the court, allegedly conspired to defraud Julius Gitonga Githinji of a 1.31-hectare parcel in Ruiru on or before March 26, 2020.
He denied all charges and, through his lawyer, requested a free bond, citing risk of losing his parliamentary seat if he misses eight consecutive sittings. The defense added that he had reached an out-of-court settlement with the complainant.
Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki granted Koimburi a cash bail of Ksh100,000, rejecting the plea for a free bond. His co-accused, Shelmith Karungiri Maina, had earlier been charged and released on similar terms, while lawyer Gathii Irungu is yet to take plea.
The case will be mentioned on October 22 for pre-trial.
