ODM leaders slam Gachagua over ‘Misinformation’ on Raila Odinga’s health

A section of ODM leaders has come out strongly to defend former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, accusing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of spreading false and divisive remarks about Odinga’s health.

Speaking during the Sigand Nyi Nam event in Siaya on Sunday, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga dismissed the claims, terming them as part of a political smear campaign meant to divide Kenyans.

“That opposition is imploding because one man called Gachagua is such a divisive character, he cannot bring people together. Baba is a uniter; Gachagua is a divider,” Wanga said.

She further cautioned Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition-allied politicians against entertaining leaders who insult potential partners. “The other day he said Matiang’i is a boardroom person who cannot be president,” she added.

Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu echoed Wanga’s sentiments, accusing Gachagua of exploiting Odinga’s health for political mileage.

“Raila Odinga cannot be his agenda if he wants to rule this country. Can he tell Kenyans what he wants to do for this country? Talking about Raila’s ill health, who told him Raila is sick?” Buyu asked.

Buyu described Odinga as “the glue that holds the country together,” crediting him for Kenya’s current peace and stability.

Siaya Woman Representative Christine Ombaka and Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed also condemned Gachagua’s remarks, terming them irresponsible and unethical. They urged leaders to focus on issue-based politics rather than personal attacks.

Separately, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi called on Kenyans to keep Odinga in their prayers, wishing him a speedy recovery.
